The Hawaii Fire Department reports that at 4 p.m. Tuesday (May 12) the brush fire in the Green Sands Subdivision in Ka’u continues to burn however is 80% contained at this time.
Fire and emergency personnel are on scene and working to extinguish the fire and will remain on scene throughout the night. Residents are allowed to return to their homes however advised to expect smoky conditions throughout the night. All highways and major roadways remain open however some roads within the subdivisions are closed and limited to local traffic only.
Due to the damage to the water systems in the Green Sands Subdivision water tankers will be available at the Green Sands Park from 4:30 p.m. through 7 p.m. Tuesday. The Waiohinu water spigot is open and available for water needs. Additional information regarding water availablility will be released Wednesday (May 13).
